Is there an error in your Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI? Here is how to correct it online, using OTP and other methods
Currently, the Aadhaar is not only an important information tool, but is also an access to a host of services like filing for income tax return (ITR), applying for Permanent Account Number (PAN) and many other investment schemes.
All the Aadhaar cards issued by UIDAI are encrypted with 12-digit random numbers and are important identification proof for citizens across India. Availing an Aadhaar card is very simple. Currently, the Aadhaar is not only an important information tool, but is also an access to a host of services like filing for income tax return (ITR), applying for Permanent Account Number (PAN) and many other investment schemes. With this, it must that your Aadhaar card is error-free, as your financial transaction will be hampered. An error in Aadhaar can be anything either in name, age, birth date, address and even biometric. Recently, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) have guided citizens to update their Aadhaar via official Twitter account.
Any individual, irrespective of age and gender, who is a resident of India, may voluntarily enrol to obtain Aadhaar number. Person willing to enrol has to provide minimal demographic and biometric information during the enrolment process which is totally free of cost.
Demographic informations which are included in Aadhaar are - Name, Date of Birth (verified) or Age (declared), Gender, Address, Mobile Number (optional) and Email ID (optional). In case of enrolment of child- Enrolment ID or Aadhaar number of any one parent, Proof of Relationship (PoR) document.
The biometric information involves - Ten Fingerprints, Two Iris Scans, and Facial Photograph.
Let’s find out what you can do when there is an error in your Aadhaar card!
If you visit the UIDAI website, there will be a section saying Aadhaar update. Once you click it, then you will directed towards host of updation which you can make in your Aadhaar card. This is also available for errors. At UIDAI website it says, “Update here refers to any changes as well as corrections, if required, in residents original Aadhaar letter. UIDAI provides three modes for Aadhaar Data Update.”
Any resident with a registered mobile number can update their profile using this portal. Registered mobile number is mandatory to receive password for login.
Step1 - Request for Aadhaar update!

2 - Select field(s) for update
3 - Upload Document and
4 - Select BPO Service Provide and submit request
Fill the fields with the details to be updated in English as well as in Local Language. While correcting Address, write complete address. The Aadhaar letter with updated address will be delivered at the given address only. In case you face any issues with the Pin Code and related data (State/District/Village/Town/City/Post office), contact UIDAI contact centre at [email protected].
To include Guardian/ Parent/Spouse Name as part of the address, select the Address correction option. Then select appropriate box in C/o details and enter the name of the person in the subsequent field. C/o details can be updated as a part of Address update. It is not mandatory to provide C/O details while correcting you address in Aadhaar.
You are required to fill the complete address and upload supporting PoA even if you want to update/correct only C/o details. It is ok if C/o details are not mentioned in your PoA document.
Upload original scanned (with color scanner) copies of PoA document as per the Valid Documents List.
Review the data entered for correctness and completeness in English as well as in local language.UIDAI will not make any corrections to the information in your request.
Submit the request. For future reference and tracking note down your Update Request Number (URN) carefully.
Step 2 - Check status!
If you already sent request to get your Aadhaar data update you can check the Update Status with the help of your Aadhaar and URN (Update Request Number ).
You can check your address updation status online by providing Aadhaar No, URN and SRN (Service Request Number). A text verification will be required, once adding the above information you can click on get status.
For your information, only address updation can be done via online. A resident will have to visit their enrolment/update center to update their biometric or other demographic data like name, date of birth, gender, relation, mobile and email.
Step1 - Locate an Enrolment / Update center near you.
In order to enrol for Aadhaar for yourself or for your family member, you will be required to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Center. In case your Demographic details (Name, Address, DoB, Gender, Mobile Number, Email)is not up-to-date in your Aadhaar, you can get the same updated by visiting an Aadhaar Enrolment Center. Aadhaar holders children( who have turned 15) or others in need of updating Biometrics details - Finger Prints, Iris & Photograph are required to visit an Enrolment center too. Please get valid Address proof documents.
On UIDAI website you can search the nearest enrolment centre, by providing state name, postal pin code and then click on search box.
Hence, if you face an error in your Aadhaar card, then remember the above mentioned points. Recently, UIDAI through its twitter account directed citizens over host of Aadhaar updates.
