Paytm wallet to be accessible without internet soon
The feature will work anywhere where there is bad connectivity, like in parking areas, basement, village/rural areas.
Digital payments firm Paytm has said that now the users will soon be able to access its mobile wallet for making payments with zero data connectivity, said a media report.
According to a Business Standard report, Paytm is following the steps and ideas of Alipay, payment arm of Alibaba, which is the largest investor in the firm.
As per the report, Nitin Misra, head of payment products at Paytm, said, "We have been working on various solutions. If the merchant is online, customer is offline or vice versa or even if they are both offline, they would be able to transact. Soon, they would be able use the wallet even if one is on a flight and the phone is in flight mode".
The feature will work anywhere where there is bad connectivity, like in parking areas, basement, village/rural areas. The company wanted to make the app without any constraints before opening payments bank, the report added.
How will it work for transferring money?
1. The app will have a show code option.
2. A customer can either show a bar code or a one-time password that changes every 60 seconds.
3. Even if they are both offline, the vendor only needs to either key in the code or scan the barcode 4. Transaction done. Money transferred.
Further, the report said that the company is also in talks with Airline companies, which will enable the mobile wallet for payment during the flights, as there is no connectivity mid-air.
The feature is likely to get activated by July or August-end.
The Noida-headquartered company had received an in-principle approval from RBI to set up a payments bank in August last year. Payments bank can accept demand deposits and savings bank deposits from individuals and small businesses, up to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh per account.
Post the launch of the bank, Paytm will become an end-to-end payment financial services firm with banking and mobile wallet services.
