Here are top dessert names that lost out to Android Nougat

Google finally announced the name for the next version Android. The popular mobile operating system (OS) choose the name 'Nougat', a sweet which has its origins from the middle-east ern region.

Google Android has a tradition of naming its OS after various desserts. Some of the previous Android OS names includes Marshmallow, Lollipop, KitKat, Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich, Honeycomb, Gingerbread, Froyo, Eclair, Donut and Cupcake.

The selection of Nougat as the next version for the Android OS comes as a disappointment to many in India who wanted to seen the next version named after an Indian dessert.

The name was selected out of the number of names sent in by people on the Twitter hashtag - #AndroidNReveal.

"Introducing #AndroidNougat. Thank you, world, for all your sweet name ideas! #AndroidNReveal," the company wrote.
