Netflix gives rise to 'Binge Racers;' over 80 lakh finish TV series in a day
Can you finish an entire TV series in a day? Online streaming portal Netflix says it has given rise to lakhs of individuals the world over who now want to join in the 'binge race.'

With data consumption on the rise people have been flocking to American entertainment company, Netflix, to stream new shows online. This year alone there were more than 80 lakh individuals who could not wait to finish a series, Netflix said in a report on Tuesday.
Netflix labelled these group of individuals as ‘Binge Racers,’ who completed an entire season of a TV show within 24 hours of its release on the company’s site.
"Accomplishing in a day what takes others weeks to achieve, Binge Racers strive to be the first to finish by speeding through an entire season within 24 hours of its release," the report said.
“In total, 8.4 million (84 lakh) members have chosen to Binge Race during their Netflix tenure, and the only thing faster than their rate of watching is the rate this behaviour continues to grow,” Netflix said.
Binge racers grew more than 20 times in the last four years, Netflix report revealed from a few lakhs in 2012 to 200,000 members in 2013 to more than 5 lakh in 2017.

The shows that spiked Binge Racing behaviour over the years were – Orange is the new black, Narcos, Gilmore Girls and the new hot favourite – The Defenders.

Nationality of these individuals were mainly from Canada, USA and Denmark. However a lot of emerging economies also featured in the report where the Binge Racing trend have spiked like Brazil, Mexico and Peru.
Mobile data usage in India alone is expected to surge fourfold in the next five years. Blended average data usage set to moderate is estimated to be 1,300 MB per month.
This expected to reach 2-2.5 GB per user in 2022.
