Currently, India’s repo rate stands at 6%. Consequently, the reverse repo rate under the LAF remains at 5.75%, and the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate at 6.25%.
The RBI’s 14-day variable rate term repo auction was fully subscribed on Tuesday for the first time in the current fiscal, which led the market to believe that the government may be raising money before the rates rose. The 14 day repo is a cash management bill which the government raises to meet temporary liquidity shortages.

RBI monetary policy meet: The rupee has dropped about 5 percent against the dollar this year and yields have spiked on government and corporate bonds. While those moves would argue for a rate increase, most economists aren’t convinced it will come on Wednesday.
The RBI had kept the repo rate unchanged at 6% in its last policy meet, but hinted that it may change its stance based on inflationary risks. RBI executive director Michael Patra was the only member of the six-member panel who voted for a rate hike of 25 bps. The central bank, which had projected a GDP growth of 7.4% for FY19 and inflation at 4.7-5.1% for the first half of this fiscal, will announce the outcome of the MPC meeting on June 6.

Higher borrowing costs risk slowing the recent recovery in demand for credit, which was led by retail and working capital loans, said Karthik Srinivasan, group head of financial sector ratings at ICRA Ltd., the local unit of Moody’s Investors Service. Moody’s cut India’s 2018 economic growth forecast last week, citing tighter financial conditions as a reason.
Emerging markets also face near-term risks from U.S. protectionism, according to NatWest Markets. China said Sunday that all commitments made so far in talks with the U.S. over trade will be withdrawn if President Donald Trump carries out his threat to impose tariffs. The U.S. last week opened a multi-front trade assault on allies and adversaries alike, imposing metal duties on the EU, Canada and Mexico.
Indian rupee was trading at 67.085, down by 0.150 points or 0.22% against US dollar.
RBI monetary policy: Indian economic expansion for the quarter ending March 2018 came in at 7.7%. Consumer inflation for the month of April came at 4.58% which is well above the RBI guidance of 4% over the medium term.

The six-member Monetary Policy Committee including the RBI governor Urjit Patel held a meeting on Wednesday for discussing the policy, and on April 05 i.e is tomorrow, the resolution of the meet will be announced for all.
