India's retail inflation or Consumer Price Index (CPI) grew 3.36% in August 2017 as against 2.36% in July 2017 and 5.05% in the corresponding month of the previous year, as per Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MOSPI).
CPI Inflation for the month of July 2017 came in at 2.4% and IIP stood at negative 0.1% in June 2017 - both below expectations.

India's central bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday cut repo rate by 25 basis points making it the lowest since 2010. While announcing its bi-monthly monetary policy the RBI reduced the repo rate to 6% from 6.25% and slashed reverse repo rate to 5.75% from 6%.
The decision was taken considering the majority of MPC, as four out of six MPC members were in favour of 25 bps cut in policy rate.
Policy repo rate stands at 6.25% presently. Markets are expecting a rate cut while few analysts believe it would be another status quo in this monetary policy review.
